What's Actually Trending 2018
So that’s us into April already, this year is flying by! Anyway, I’m always interested in what predicted trends in December have actually made an impression the following year. It’s all well & good to predict but, do we you ever really know what will be popular? Here are five trends I’ve seen make the cut in the first quarter of the year-
Moody
Dark Interiors
I really,
really, REALLY like embracing the dark by being brave with bold colours & furniture
so the popularity of navy blue, emerald green & general peacock colouring
has been a trend I'm loving!
Mixed Metallics
Before,
silver & gold together in a scheme sounded like an absolute no no &
that your space has to abide by the law of one metallic at a time please but,
those days are over. Designers are mixing metals softly & subtly to
emphasise the beauty of the product & add an element of courageousness to
the interior.
Tropical
Prints
I’ve seen
so many tropical prints come through in wallpaper & fabric collections
mostly making use of the popularity of that emerald green tone & some
combining with navy blues too. The white on white & white with silver
colour ways look great too! Below is ‘Palm Jungle’ by Cole & Son in the
collection ‘Contemporary Restyled’. It looks great in bathrooms or used as a
feature wall in an eclectic space.
Glam Wood
Scandi
trends showed us pale & bleached wood but in keeping with the darker moody
themes I’ve mentioned, the accompanying wood has had to follow suit. I’m seeing
more & more walnut pieces or charred wood mixed with metallic styling like
this frankly wonderful sideboard by Franck Chartrain called ‘Phoenix’ where he
has used charred wood, polished bronze & black labrador granite to create
this incredible line of retro glam furniture.
Botanical
& Blush Pink
Not so
much a new trend, but something I’m seeing continue into this year. Botanical
prints mixed with blush pink, textures, gold, small pot plants & geometric
shapes. I’ve seen a lot of little bugs & bumble bees being included on some
of the more intricate designs. I’m sure this will remain a poplar style of
decorating well into next year.
