Modern V Contemporary Oversimplified
If you’re in the industry, an enthusiast or perhaps just currently decorating, you’ll have heard “modern” & “contemporary” thrown about haphazardly, ultimately confusing designers on a daily basis. Let’s oversimplify the difference for a quick conclusion.
Modern - It was an era. It’s happened already! Think Bauhaus. Think Art Deco. It’s not now although aspects may still be used.
Contemporary - It's Here! It is now. It's what you'll see on the high street. It’s what’s in the magazines. It’s the current trend. It's new products & ideas. In 100 years time, whatever’s popular then, will be contemporary design.
Done.
